We loved our little café at 49 Barclay Place. It was a wonderful space, a brilliant showcase for our coffee and something the whole Modern Standard team will always be proud of.
Most importantly, it became part of the Bruntsfield community. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who came through its doors, whether you visited every morning, discovered us while passing through Edinburgh or simply stopped for one very good cup of coffee.
Like all good things, our time at Barclay Place came to an end, and the café closed in June 2026.
Modern Standard Coffee is still very much here. We're putting even more of our energy into the things we love most: roasting exceptional coffee at our Glenrothes roastery, finding exciting new coffees and making it easy for people across the UK to enjoy them at home.

Is the Modern Standard café in Bruntsfield still open?
No. Our café at 49 Barclay Place closed in June 2026. Thank you to everyone who made it such a special place.
Can I still get your coffee in Edinburgh?
Yes. We deliver across Edinburgh and the rest of the UK, and delivery is free on orders over £30. Every bag is roasted to order in Glenrothes, so it reaches you fresher than it would from a shop shelf. Shop our coffee.
What espresso did the café use?
Our flat whites were made with Momentum, our house espresso. You can order Momentum online, or set up a subscription so it arrives before you run out.
Can I set up a regular delivery?
Yes. Choose your coffee and how often you'd like it, every week, fortnight or four weeks, and pause or skip whenever you need to.
