Every batch of Modern Standard Coffee is roasted here on Cavendish Way, and the roastery shop is open to anyone who wants to buy coffee straight from the source. Call in for freshly roasted beans over the counter, or order online and collect for free.
Worth knowing before you travel: this is a working roastery rather than a café, so there's no seating. There is free parking, a £2 self-service takeaway coffee and a team happy to help you choose.

We opened our roastery in Glenrothes in December 2019. From the heart of Scotland, we roast on 70kg, 25kg, 12kg and 2.5kg Diedrich roasters, and we're proud to be one of the leading speciality coffee roasters in the country.
Glenrothes is more than a convenient base. It's home. Our founder, Lynsey Harley, grew up in Finglassie and went to Auchmuty High School, so opening the roastery here was as much about returning to her roots as building a coffee company.
From here our coffee travels far and wide. We export to the US and Europe, and you'll find Modern Standard served everywhere from Fisher & Donaldson in St Andrews to the Louis Vuitton cafés, and in bakeries as far afield as Denmark and New York.

The video that put us on the map
In September 2025 a video of the roastery reached 90,000 views, and people have been turning up ever since. Most of them arrive with the same line: a hidden gem in Glenrothes. We'll take that.
Inside the roastery shop
The shop sits right where we roast, so what's on the shelf is days old rather than months. Our team can talk you through the range, help you match a coffee to the way you brew, and grind it for your espresso machine, cafetière or filter. Our grind size guide shows what each brewer needs.
We're a short drive from Kirkcaldy, Leven, Markinch and most of central Fife. If you know what you're after, order online and we'll have it bagged and waiting at the counter.

Glenrothes roastery FAQs
Is there a café? Can I sit in for a coffee?
No, and it's worth knowing before you travel. We're a working roastery rather than a coffee shop, so there's no seating and no barista. You can grab a takeaway coffee from our self-service machine for £2, but it's a cup to take with you rather than somewhere to sit.
Can I just turn up, or do I need an appointment?
Just turn up. We're open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and you're welcome to come in and buy beans over the counter.
Can I buy coffee beans at the roastery?
Yes. Come in Monday to Friday and buy freshly roasted beans straight from the roastery. We take card, including contactless.
Do you do click and collect?
Yes. Order online and collect from the roastery Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Handy if you want something specific put by rather than taking what's on the shelf.
Is the roastery wheelchair accessible?

Is there parking?
Yes, there's free parking on site.
Do you repair coffee machines?
Commercial machines only, through our sister company, Modern Standard Service. Their engineers install, service and repair commercial espresso and bean-to-cup machines. They don't work on home machines. Find out about machine servicing.
Do you supply coffee to cafés and businesses?
Yes. We supply cafés, restaurants, hotels and workplaces across Scotland and the UK, alongside barista training and equipment. See our wholesale service.
Do you ship coffee, or is it collection only?
Both. We ship nationwide from the roastery, and you can also collect in person. Everything is roasted here in Fife.
Can't make it to Glenrothes?
We roast to order and post across the UK, so you can get the same fresh coffee at home.
