How to Make a Dirty Matcha
Matcha and espresso in one glass. How to make a layered iced dirty matcha at home, and how to make it hot.
In this article
A dirty matcha is a matcha latte with a shot of espresso. Earthy matcha and rich, chocolatey coffee sound like an odd pairing, but they work brilliantly together, especially iced and layered in a glass.
What you need
- Zuma Matcha
- Espresso coffee, such as our Momentum Espresso
- A small whisk or milk frother
- A tall glass, ice and cold milk
The recipe (iced)
- A glass full of ice
- 180ml of cold milk
- 1.5g of matcha whisked with 40ml of water
- A single espresso
Step by step
- Fill a tall glass with ice and cold milk.
- Whisk 1.5g of matcha with 40ml of water until smooth and pour it in.
- Pull a single espresso (see our espresso guide) and float it slowly on top.
- Stir before drinking.
Hot dirty matcha
Whisk the matcha with 30ml of warm water in a mug, add the espresso, then top with about 200ml of steamed milk.
Tips
- A single shot is plenty. A double can overpower the matcha.
- 10ml of vanilla syrup rounds it off beautifully.
